After SPM: Your Pathway

Last updated: September 2026

What to Study After SPM?

After SPM, many students face tough decisions about their next step. Beyond traditional universities, Malaysia offers faster, more practical diploma pathways. An IT diploma lets you gain professional skills in 18 months — 2-3 years faster than university. Even without SPM results, you can start your career through the TVET (vocational education) pathway.

Can I Study a Degree Without SPM?

Yes. At Nova Academy you can earn a bachelor's degree without SPM: start an 18-month IT or design diploma from age 16 (no SPM, no entrance exam), then continue to a 12-month top-up degree — about 30 months in total. The degree is awarded by UITM Poland at EQF Level 6 under the European Qualifications Framework.

From No SPM to a Degree in 3 Steps

  1. Enrol in a diploma from age 16 — Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Creative Multimedia or Technopreneurship. No SPM, no interview.
  2. Complete the diploma in 18 months (15 months of study + a guaranteed 3-month internship) and earn an EQF Level 5 diploma.
  3. Continue to a 12-month top-up degree, with credit transfer for eligible students, and earn an EQF Level 6 bachelor's degree.

Applicants without a diploma can also enter the 36-month bachelor's programme directly — our admissions team will confirm eligibility.

Advantages of the TVET Pathway

TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) is actively promoted by the Malaysian government. The 70% practical + 30% theory approach means graduates are job-ready from day one. TVET graduates enjoy over 90% employment rates. After completing your diploma, you can continue to a degree programme for further advancement. This is the most cost-effective pathway after SPM.
